Shop Keeper

Shopping is a daily activity that can often consume too much of my time and effort. My goal for this project is to create one platform that allows users to personalize their shopping experience for a better style, fit, and experience. All for a more efficient and tasteful shopping experience.

Using my background in fashion design for my work as a UX/UI designer, I want to create a project where I can combine both my skill sets. Individual case studies were performed in order to create for a better shopping experience.

The Challenge

Online shopping is the most popular shopping method for users, but inaccuracies in fit and multiple app downloads for each brand can be irritating for users who are on-the-go. Shopping can be less stressful and it doesn’t have to consume so much time.

The Approach

I will be providing users with a personalized shopping experience through one application based on their style preference, body shape, size, and lifestyle. This app will recognize the user’s shopping habits and activity on social media to gather accurate assumptions to the user’s needs.

the vision

Shopping should be a pleasant, convenient, and quick experience. Average users do not like to spend too much time comparing and researching for the right fit at a moderate expense. Most users are on-the-go and so should shopping. Time is money and shopping can be more of a pleasant experience by combining efficiency and accuracy to the user’s taste. In my effort to create this platform, I came up with Shop Keeper. It is an app which provides a personal experience based on the user’s style, body shape, and lifestyle.

advantages to ShopKeeper

Unlimited Access to Brands

Compared to shopping apps like Nordstroms, Zara, H&M, and ASOS, which are limited to selected brands, ShopKeeper provides unlimited access to different brands. Users have full control of their shopping experience vs. brands like Nordstroms and ASOS curates brands by their sales team.

Expertise in Styling

Features such as personalized shopping experience and tracking user’s shopping behavior enhances the ability to provide a styling guide than a average shopping app.

User Interviews & Findings

Through user interviews and research, I found that, for most people, online shopping was preferred over going to an actual store. The convenience factor is the key aspect of its appeal. For instance, online shopping does not require you to look for parking, wait in line, or dig through sometimes unorganized and messy shopping racks. Instead, everything is done at your own pace in the comfort of your own home. The trend toward online shopping over brick and mortar became obvious.

Therefore, I asked myself what some of the pitfalls of online shopping could be. How could the virtual shopping experience be improved upon to be even more convenient? To answer these questions I decided to conduct further interviews and surveys consisting of questions in regards to the two different ways of shopping online; through a website and through an app.

Survey

In a survey consisting of twenty randomly selected people, I asked which form of shopping each person preferred; web based, app based, or brick and mortar. The results showed that an overwhelming majority of the group preferred online to brick and mortar. However, when asked whether they preferred web based or app based shopping, most said they preferred web based over app based. When asked why, the response mostly consisted of the fact that with shopping on a website, it is easier to flip from one shop to another to compare styles and pricing, while with an app, they had to actually download and install multiple apps and switch back and forth, which was cumbersome, confusing, and time consuming. Therefore, I concluded that an app which combines a variety of different brands and styles into one convenient platform would be highly convenient for the modern on-the-go shopper.

“I can’t live without online shopping. I don’t have the time to go to a store, try things on, and wait in line. I’m too busy with work.”
